Woman d!es after falling into well while fetching water in Kwara

The Kwara State Fire Service has recovered the corpse of a 57-year-old woman, Mrs. Jamiu Sikirat, from a domestic well in Ilorin.

Sikirat of of Ile-Agunko compound Adeta area Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government Area, had gone to fetch water at Ile-Onikoko Compound in Adeta area when she fell into the well on Monday evening, June 19, 2023, around 6:42 pm.

Spokesperson of the service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the brigade was alerted through an exchange telephone call by one Mr. Muhammad Jamiu, living in that neighbourhood.

“However, firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Alfa Abdulganiyu Akuko, a family member of the deceased, in the presence of the Nigerian Police officers, Adewole Division Ilorin,” the statement read.

“According to the report, the victim woman went to fetch water at the well and during the process of fetching, one of her legs suddenly slipped off the ground and eventually tumbled down into the well.

“The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed his sadness over the incident and urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and should desist from sending under age children to fetch water in domestic wells.”
