Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Kanayo O Kanayo, has expressed displeasure with what he perceives as a lack of gratitude from people who receive financial favours.
In a video he shared on social media on Monday, Kanayo criticised the response of “seen” after receiving money as a sign of ungratefulness.
He said, “I have one question. Why are people very ungrateful?
βYou do somebody a favour by sending him or her money, and the person receives it and sends you a text with βseen.”
The actor further blamed such a response as “inheritance mentality,” where people expect help as a right, not a courtesy.
“Seen? Come on! You think itβs your right? Thatβs an inheritance mentality; people are like this, and it doesnβt show that you are grateful,” he added.
Kanayo urged people to express gratitude, saying that it encourages the giver to do more.
He said, βLook, gratitude unspoken is ingratitude spoken. Itβs not your right; learn to be grateful for whatever somebody does for you.
“That way, the person will be encouraged to do more. Stop being selfish; be grateful nobody owes you anything.”
