Funke Akindele Praises Iyabo Ojo on New Movie, Labake Olododo

Nollywood actress and box office queen Funke Akindele has commended her colleague and friend, Iyabo Ojo, on the success of her latest project, Labake Olododo.

The much-anticipated film premiered on Sunday at IMAX Cinemas, Lekki, Lagos, drawing industry heavyweights and fans alike. In a video circulating online, Akindele was seen praising Ojo for the movie’s stunning visuals and overall aesthetics.

“You look so stupid,” Funke jokingly teased Iyabo before adding, “I love the background, visuals, and everything else. It’s beautiful. Congratulations, and I wish you all the best. It’s your time to shine. Go and break it. We will keep pushing.”

A Growing Friendship in Nollywood
Ahead of the premiere, Akindele had already shown support for Ojo’s film. Sharing a trailer on Instagram, she expressed excitement, stating that she was eager to watch it.

Since rekindling their friendship at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), the duo has maintained a close bond. That same year, when Akindele turned 45, Ojo celebrated her with heartfelt prayers for more success. Funke returned the gesture later in the year when Iyabo clocked 45, attending her birthday party and showering her with warm wishes.

Their camaraderie was also evident at comedian Kamo State’s wedding in December, where they stole the show with their dance moves and laughter. Viral clips from the event showed Iyabo rising to greet Funke as she arrived, and the two later shared moments on the dance floor, chatting and embracing.

A Friendship Rooted in Support
Beyond their recent closeness, Funke Akindele has acknowledged Iyabo Ojo’s role in her early career. In an interview, she revealed how Ojo and another actress, Sikiratu Sindodo, stood by her when she faced industry challenges due to being typecast. She recalled breaking down on a movie set, only for Iyabo and Sikiratu to fight for her and help her find her footing in Nollywood.

As Ojo basks in the success of Labake Olododo, her friendship with Akindele remains a testament to mutual respect and support in the competitive world of Nollywood.
