Portable Turns to Traditional Prayers After Dodging Jail Term

Nigerian street-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has turned to traditional prayers and spiritual reflection after narrowly avoiding a jail sentence.

The Ifo Magistrate Court in Ogun State convicted the controversial artist on two counts of assault, stemming from a 2022 altercation involving one Osimosu Emmanuel. However, rather than serving a three-month jail term, Portable was given the option of paying a fine—N10,000 for the first count and N20,000 for the second—which he promptly paid.

Shortly after the judgment, the singer took to Instagram to share a video that has since gone viral. In the clip, Portable is seen holding a charm and chanting in Yoruba, offering prayers for peace and financial prosperity. “I no want wahala again. I just want money, make money dey come,” he intoned in a mix of chant and song, signaling a desire to leave controversy behind.

He was previously charged with assault and conspiracy, as well as theft of musical equipment, though he was acquitted of the latter. After being briefly remanded in custody, Portable returned to court for the final judgment and left as a free man.

Now seemingly in a reflective state, the artist appears to be seeking spiritual balance as he continues his journey through fame and its many entanglements.
