“A Testament to Perseverance”: Mercy Aigbe Celebrates AMVCA Win with Heartfelt Tribute

By Temidayo Aboderin

Nollywood star Mercy Aigbe has shared an emotional message of gratitude and reflection following her win at the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on Saturday night at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

Aigbe emerged as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Farmer’s Bride, beating industry veterans such as Meg Otanwa, Tina Mba, Ireti Doyle, Ini Dima-Okojie, Omoni Oboli, and Darasimi Nadi.

Taking to Instagram after her victory, Aigbe described the award as a powerful reminder of the importance of perseverance, consistency, and hard work. Overflowing with gratitude, she dedicated the win to everyone who has stood by her—especially during moments of doubt.

“This achievement isn’t just mine—it’s a testament to the power of perseverance, consistency, hard work, and the incredible people surrounding me! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!” she wrote.

Aigbe extended appreciation to her family, fans, the AMVCA organizers, and the team behind Farmer’s Bride. She offered special thanks to FilmOne Studios for the opportunity and praised the cast and crew for their tireless efforts and dedication.

“This WIN is for everyone who has supported me. My heart is so filled with gratitude. To the other nominees in my category, this is a win for all of us!” she added.

A Journey of Consistency and Reinvention
Reflecting on her career, Aigbe shared that the award comes as validation after more than two decades in the film industry. Despite numerous nominations over the years, this win holds special significance, reinforcing her belief in authenticity and staying the course.

The actress has not only maintained her relevance in Nollywood but has also made significant strides as a filmmaker. Her debut cinema production Ada Omo Daddy grossed over ₦187 million, ranking as the third-highest-grossing Nigerian film of 2023—competing with industry giants like Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.

Her sophomore production, Thin Line, also performed strongly, grossing over ₦100 million at the box office, solidifying her status as a formidable force in Nigeria’s cinema space.

In a March post, Aigbe revealed that one of her greatest joys as a filmmaker is witnessing how her stories resonate deeply with audiences and stir real emotions.

“It’s incredible to see how Ada Omo Daddy touched so many hearts. That’s what makes this journey truly fulfilling,” she said.

With her recent AMVCA win and a growing footprint in cinema production, Mercy Aigbe continues to inspire a new generation of actors and storytellers—proving that resilience, vision, and staying true to one’s craft never go out of style.
