Gunmen Assassinate Popular Bar Owner Near Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Suspected Cult Attack

Fear and confusion gripped residents near a popular pizza spot opposite the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the fatal shooting of a well-known beer parlour owner by unidentified gunmen.

The tragic incident, which occurred late Sunday evening, saw the victim ambushed by armed assailants while driving. Eyewitness accounts confirmed that the attackers double-crossed his vehicle, shot him twice in the chest at close range, and immediately fled the scene, leaving his lifeless body inside the car.

“There was chaos around the polytechnic area. A group of armed men appeared out of nowhere, blocked his path, shot him twice in the chest, and sped off,” an eyewitness said. “People gathered around the vehicle in shock. His brother, who was among the crowd, realized it was him and drove the car, with his body inside, straight to the police station.”

A video circulating on social media captured the heartbreaking moment as a crowd surrounded the vehicle, with the deceased’s brother visibly distraught before taking the body away.

Confirming the incident on Monday, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described the killing as cult-related. He revealed that the swift response of the police led to the arrest of one suspect connected to the crime.

“It was a cult-related killing,” Ikenga stated. “Our officers, led by the DPO, responded quickly and arrested one suspect who is currently being interrogated. The victim’s body has been recovered and deposited at the morgue, and his vehicle has also been secured.”

He assured that further developments would be shared as investigations continue.
