IGP Egbetokun Confirms Recall of Over 11,500 Police Officers from VIP Security Duties

Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the withdrawal of 11,566 police personnel previously assigned to provide security for Very Important Personalities (VIPs), stating that the action is in line with a direct order from the Presidency.

Egbetokun made the disclosure on Thursday, November 27, during a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja. He noted that the presidential directive empowers him to carry out the recall decisively, stressing that no VIP is permitted to challenge the decision since it originated from the nation’s highest authority.

The IGP urged Nigerians and police operatives to fully comply with the order, noting that the move is part of broader efforts to reposition the police for improved service delivery. He added that officers withdrawn from VIP protection will now be redeployed to strengthen community policing and enhance public safety nationwide.
