The remains of Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu, popularly known for her hit song Omije Ojumi, have been laid to rest amid dramatic scenes at her graveside.
The gospel artiste, who passed away on January 12, was buried on Tuesday, January 28, at the Atan Cemetery in Lagos.
However, the burial ceremony was briefly disrupted by a confrontation between members of her estranged husband’s family and her children at the graveside.
Reports indicate that the estranged husband, who is said to be based in the United States, requested to speak with his children during the interment. The request was reportedly opposed by members of the late singer’s family, who insisted that the graveside was not an appropriate place for such a discussion, given that the children were still grieving their mother.
The situation escalated into a shouting match involving one of the estranged husband’s sisters and the deceased singer’s son. The aunt was heard insisting that the children belonged to their family and were loved by their father.
“We are your family and we love you. Your father loved you, your father loves you, and I love you,” she was heard shouting.
The visibly distressed son of the late gospel singer reacted angrily, repeatedly denying the claim as other relatives stepped in to restrain him and restore calm.
Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu died at the age of 46.
