Amaechi Slams Federal Government Over Deadly Maiduguri Blasts, Calls for Urgent Action.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu following the deadly bombings in Maiduguri, accusing the government of failing in its primary responsibility to protect citizens.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amaechi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), condemned the attacks which occurred on Monday night and left at least 23 people dead and 108 others injured. He described the incident as a reflection of what he termed poor leadership and inadequate response to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

The former Rivers State governor expressed sympathy with the victims and their families, noting that Nigerians continue to suffer repeated tragedies while, according to him, those in power have not taken sufficient steps to address the situation.

Amaechi argued that the recent bombings highlight deeper concerns about the government’s handling of security challenges, stressing that citizens deserve safety, peace, and decisive leadership.

He further criticised what he described as a lack of urgency and accountability in tackling insecurity, warning that continued inaction could erode public confidence in governance.

The attacks in Maiduguri occurred around 7:20 p.m., shortly after residents had broken their Ramadan fast. Multiple explosions hit crowded locations, including the Monday Market roundabout, the Post Office Flyover, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, with reports of another blast in the Kaleri area.

Reacting to the incident, President Tinubu condemned the attacks and directed security chiefs to relocate to the affected area. Meanwhile, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, visited victims in hospital and urged residents to remain calm while security agencies intensify efforts to prevent further attacks.
