The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a domestic staff member allegedly linked to the abduction and murder of his employer, a Pentecostal bishop and founder of End-Reconciliation Ministry, Asaba, Delta State.
The suspect, said to be the cleric’s driver and domestic aide, was apprehended alongside another individual accused of attempting to purchase the victim’s stolen Toyota Prado Jeep in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the arrest followed a swift intelligence-driven operation carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly conspired with other yet-to-be-identified accomplices to kill the bishop before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle to Anambra State with plans to sell it.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives acted on credible intelligence, tracked down the suspects in Nkpor, recovered the stolen Prado Jeep, and took the suspects into custody for further questioning.
He added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest other members of the criminal gang allegedly involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, CP Orutugu has urged residents to exercise caution when employing domestic workers, drivers, and other household staff.
He advised members of the public to properly verify and profile individuals employed in their homes and businesses, while remaining alert to suspicious conduct and activities.
