The South West All_Progressives_Congress (APC) Support Groups Council (APC-SGC) has officially launched the zonal edition of the Renewed Hope Unity Cup Football Competition for primary schools. The initiative is part of an aggressive grassroots mobilization strategy aimed at parents, teachers, and community stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Deputy Director-General of the council, Ambassador Adewale Adeogun, unveiled the tournament on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, during a zonal press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Iyaganku, Ibadan. The event was themed: “Need for Grassroots Mobilization in the South West by Support Groups in APC Towards 2027 General Election.”
Ambassador Adeogun explained that the primary school tournament is structurally designed to discover young sporting talents and promote national unity. Crucially, the competition serves as a strategic vehicle for political mobilizers to directly engage parents and educators across the length and breadth of the South-West zone.
Highlighting the council’s track record since 2022, Adeogun noted that the APC-SGC has consistently driven voter education, micro-grants for artisans, and skill acquisition programs to deepen acceptance for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He commended the APC national leadership for recently constituting the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and pledged that the support groups would work hand-in-hand with the PCC to showcase the president’s infrastructure and economic reforms.
However, the council chief issued a direct appeal to the ruling party’s hierarchy and APC-led governments at all levels, demanding greater political patronage and structural recognition for the foot soldiers who deliver electoral victories.
“To whom much is given, much is expected,” Adeogun declared. “Rewarding the base is investing in the future of the APC. We respectfully call on the party and government at all levels to accord the South West APC Support Groups Council due recognition and better political patronage to enable us sustain our grassroots supporters.”
He reaffirmed the council’s unwavering loyalty to the progressive national agenda, vowing that the South-West zone will be fully mobilized and secured for the party before the 2027 ballot opens.
