The Plateau State Police Command has arrested several female undergraduates of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, following a viral social media video showing them brutally attacking another female student within the Pankshin Local Government Area.
The vicious assault was reportedly triggered by a heated dispute over a mutual boyfriend.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrests in an official statement released over the weekend. He disclosed that the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, immediately intervened upon viewing the footage, ordering the Area Commander in Pankshin to launch a swift investigation and apprehend all perpetrators involved.
“Immediately the CP got wind of the viral video, he directed the Area Commander in Pankshin LGC to act immediately, which they have successfully done,” SP Alabo stated.
The command’s image maker explained that the arrested students are undergoing preliminary profiling. They will subsequently be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Jos for comprehensive interrogation. Alabo emphasized that all the suspects will be formally charged to court immediately after detectives conclude the ongoing investigation.
Condemning the incident in strong terms, the police spokesperson warned Nigerian students against taking the law into their own hands. He reiterated that the command views jungle justice and all forms of physical violence as serious criminal offenses that will be met with the full wrath of the law.
