Presidential/NASS Election: Massive voter turnout in Ibadan

Voters across Ibadan metropolis have described the ongoing presidential and national essembly elections as impressive as eligible voters turned out massively to exercise their franchise despite scarcity current cash crunch in the country.

Our correspondent went round some areas within the city namely ward 10 unit 16 Ibadan North local government, ward 8 unit 39, 40, 41 Orogun , Akinyele lg, unit 35 ward 12, Ibadan North voters cast their votes in orderly fashion.

Senatorial candidate for Oyo south senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mogaji Olasunkanmi Tegbe in an interview with journalist shortly after casting his vote at Labo area of Ibadan described the exercise as relatively peaceful and orderly.

He said though minimal hiccups were noticed in some of the wards in the area, as the entire process was adjudged as impressive just as he expressed optimism that his party will emerge victorious.

Similarly, a lawmaker represeing Ibadan North 2 state constituency in the state House Of Assembly, Babajide Gabriel who lauded the INEC.

He, however, decried the slow pace at which the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System,(BVAS) machine was functioning in ward 12 unit 35, Kajola, Agbowo area of Ibadan as at press time, therefore, appealed for an extension of time so as not to disenfranchise a lot of eligible voters.

The General Manager of PTS Hon. Wole Akinleye, Mrs Olushola Oduola, Justine Ekeopara, Dillina Lucy Nwobi, and Kehinde Ayegoro all alluded to the fact that the accreditation and voting exercise witnessed an improvement on the 2019 general elections.

Meanwhile, Governor, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State also performed his civic right.

Makinde, who voted at Abayomi, ward 11, unit 001, Ibadan North East Local Government, commended INEC for the exercise, noting that the process has been relatively peaceful and orderly.

The governor arrived his polling unit, in company of his wife, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde.

Addressing newsmen shortly after casting his ballots, Makinde who looked relaxed and confident, urged voters to exercise their civic responsibilities by voting for preferred candidates of their choices.

Asked what his assessment the voting process is? Makinde said: “Voters should be patient to exercise their civil responsibilities. People are conducting themselves very well and I think democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.”
