In the list of sexual offenders in Lagos State, Baba Ijesha has been given a honorable mention.
On Saturday, July 16, the Lagos state government added the name of Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, also known as Baba Ijesha, to its list of the state’s sexual offenders.
All sex convicts’ information is promptly entered into the sex offenders register after a conviction is obtained, according to the agency’s Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi.
Recall that on Thursday, July 14, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sentenced Baba Ijesha to sixteen years in prison for molesting comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, nicknamed Princess’ foster daughter.
The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions brought charges against Baba Ijesha on six counts of child defilement, including the indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault by penetration.
Baba Ijesha entered a not guilty plea to all counts notwithstanding the prosecution’s claim that the offenses violated sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262, and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which mandates life imprisonment for offenders.
In court, a Closed-Circuit Television film of his interactions with the victim who is a minor, was played.
Justice Taiwo gave the ruling, noting that the prosecution had not established the defendant’s guilt on all counts beyond a reasonable doubt, but had found him guilty on four of the six counts.
Baba Ijesha was found guilty of counts 2, 3, 4, and 5. For count 2, he received a sentence of three years in prison, five years for count 3, three years for count 4, and five years for count 5.
