Nigerian media personality, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, better known as Nedu, has tendered an apology to Nigerians for his recent comment about the institution of marriage.
It was earlier reported that Nedu took to social media to say that ‘marriage is dead’ and that women have now turned it into a poverty alleviation scheme.

He said this in response to the recent discourse about footballer Achraf Hakimi’s wife, who allegedly demanded half of his fortune after filing for divorce, only to learn that he owned nothing because all of his properties are in his mother’s name.
According to Nedu, marriage has lost its original purpose and has become a means for women to escape poverty. He asserted that Hakimi’s wife only married him because she planned to divorce him and take half of his fortune after a few years of marriage.
“You see say marriage don die? In fact, if people believe anything for marriage before, the thing wey dey go on now with marriage for inside the whole world, people no want enter marriage again. Na most women, some of una, na e dey make some people no want enter marriage because una don turn the thing to poverty alleviation scheme,” he said in part. Watch the video here
His choice of word infuriated many of his followers and he was dragged to filth for saying marriage is ‘dead’.
Reacting to this backlash, Nedu has now publicly apologized to those offended by his statement. He also explained that his words were misunderstood and he didn’t mean it literally.
He wrote on his Instastory,
“Sincere apologies to those hurt by my Hakimi video.. It’s totally taken out of context.
Regardless I apologize
Na una dey pay me salary so whatever doesn’t sit well with y’all won’t be entertained by me.
God bless una.
Love and light”
