Oyo Christian journalists tasked on higher standards, honest reporting

Christian journalists have been told that their mission is not simply to report the news and events alone but to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ through their profession.

The admonition was given by a social crusader, entrepreneur, youth and women rights activist, Rev. Dr Adenike Victor-Tade, during a courtesy visit to her office by a group of Christian journalists in Oyo state led by Com. ‘Lekan Sobowale, on Friday.

According to her, Christian journalists must be selfless in their work, putting the public needs and interest ahead of their own, adding that they must be willing to sacrifice their time, energy, and even their resources to defend truth always as well as share the love of Christ with the world.

She noted that above all, they must be people of integrity, honesty, and compassion who should always exemplify truth in their works and deeds.

“As Christian journalists, you must have a unique opportunity to impact the world for Christ, and you must not take this responsibility lightly.”

“In order to fulfill their calling, Christian journalists must remember that they are not just working for a paycheck or fame. They are working for the Kingdom of God, and their work should reflect that.”

“They must strive to be a light in the darkness, a voice of truth in a world of lies, and a source of hope and encouragement for all who hear their words.”

Rev. Dr Adenike Victor-Tade, a former 2023 Oyo South Senatorial candidate on the platform of the Young Progressive Party, used the medium to call on Christian leaders to be examples of integrity, compassion, and faith.

She said they walk the walk and talk the talk, they can inspire others to do the same, noting thst, that was when a real change can happen in the country.

“Christian leaders are often looked up to by those in their congregations and communities, and their words and actions can have a profound impact.”

She then prayed to God to guide and strengthen Christian journalists as they fulfill their sacred duty.

“May your work bring glory to His name and draw others to Him. And may you be beacons of hope and a witness to the power of Christ’s love,” she prayed.

Earlier in his remark, Com. ‘Lekan Sobowale noted that Christian journalists face unique challenges in their work, and they often lack the resources and training they need to effectively fulfill their missions.

He added that as a form of motivation, it would not be out of place if some well meaning individuals offer their support and expertise by investing in capacity building for Christian journalists.

This he said, could help to ensure that these professionals have the skills and knowledge they need to make a positive impact in the world.

The visit had in attendance, Com. Henry Odeh, Com. Wale Owoade, Com Mosun Akinola, Com. Ogundele Olanrewaju, Com Temidayo Aboderin and Com. Adeola Badru.
