Jandor: I Don’t Need Tinubu’s Endorsement to Become Lagos Governor

Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has stated that he does not need to seek approval from President Bola Tinubu to achieve his ambition of becoming the governor of Lagos State in 2027.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Jandor reiterated that his political journey is independent of the influence of Tinubu, the political heavyweight of Lagos.

Jandor, who was the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, began his political career in the All Progressives Congress (APC) before exiting the party with his Lagos4Lagos Movement in 2022. He later joined the PDP and contested against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu but lost the election.

Recently, Jandor announced his departure from the PDP, citing internal sabotage and a lack of disciplinary action against party members who engaged in anti-party activities.

“We waited patiently for two years to see if the party at the national level would enforce its constitution. Instead, the same person involved in anti-party activities was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee,” he lamented.

Looking ahead to the 2027 election, Jandor said he is open to joining any viable political party to pursue his governorship ambition, including the APC, Labour Party, or other emerging coalitions.

“APC is one of the 17 political parties left. A coalition is coming in Nigeria. Labour Party is also an option,” he said.

On whether he had sought Tinubu’s backing or that of other APC leaders for his 2027 bid, Jandor was clear in his stance:

“No, we are not in the same party. I don’t have to consult with them.”
