Osun APC Slams Governor Adeleke Over Unannounced Trip, Government Responds

Adeleke

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the absence of Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of abandoning his official duties without informing the public of his whereabouts.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed that Governor Adeleke “sneaked out” of the Government House without disclosing his destination or officially handing over power to his deputy.

“The people of Osun State deserve transparency. It is absolutely wrong for the governor to vanish from public view for two weeks without any formal notice,” Olabisi said. “He needs to understand that governance is a serious responsibility and not a family affair. We want to know who is in charge of the state in his absence.”

The APC further alleged that the Governor’s prolonged absence had created a governance vacuum, expressing fears that his administration was being run “by proxy” through members of his family.

“This is not how a democratic government should function. Osun people must not be left in the dark about the activities of their elected leader,” the statement added.

Governor’s Office Responds: He’s on Vacation

In a swift response, the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, clarified that Governor Adeleke is currently on a short vacation in the United States, where he is also attending the wedding of his nephew and global music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Rasheed emphasized that the governor, who has not taken any official leave since assuming office in November 2022, deserves time off. He noted that the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, is fully in charge of state affairs and remains in constant communication with Governor Adeleke.

“His Excellency left Nigeria via the family’s private jet a few days ago. This trip is both personal and short. Despite being away, he remains actively involved in key state matters through regular updates from his deputy,” the statement read.

Rasheed also extended an invitation to members of the opposition to join in the celebration, either in person or virtually, stating that “the Adeleke family is happy to share their joy with all well-wishers.”

The statement concluded by reaffirming the governor’s commitment to governance and transparency, assuring citizens that state business remains uninterrupted in his absence.
