Kanayo Kanayo Raises Alarm Over Threat to Nollywood Talent.

News

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has expressed concern over what he describes as a growing trend that threatens the careers of truly talented actors in the industry.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, the actor announced the launch of his personal YouTube channel, explaining that he was taking control of his creative destiny. According to him, filmmaking should not be reduced to casting only “fine faces,” but should prioritize good storytelling and strong performances.

“What happened years ago, when some sponsors killed the careers of talented actors they believed couldn’t sell films, is beginning to rear its ugly head,” Kanayo warned. “The acclaimed YouTube faces are now bringing up the same problem, thereby killing talent in the industry.”

The actor criticised the growing culture of a few self-acclaimed YouTube stars monopolising roles, sometimes declaring themselves unavailable for long stretches. He argued that such practices stifle creativity, discourage upcoming actors, and limit the kind of stories that can be told.

Kanayo urged filmmakers and audiences to support fresh faces and genuine talent, calling on new actors to collaborate with him through his “Kanayo O. Kanayo TV” YouTube channel.

This is not the first time the veteran has voiced concerns about Nollywood’s direction. Last year, he accused YouTube-driven filmmakers of lowering industry standards with poor-quality content. He also criticised the rise of social media influencers and unskilled aspirants, who he said are diluting the craft of acting.
