Divine Coincidence: Oyo NUJ Urges Prayer, Reflection as Ramadan, Lent begin

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has extended warm greetings to all Muslim and Christian faithful as they commence the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent, which remarkably fall on the same day this year.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Mr. Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the Council described the coincidence of the two sacred observances as a profound moment of spiritual significance, reflection, and renewed commitment to faith, sacrifice, and service to humanity.

The statement notes that both seasons emphasize self-discipline, charity, peace, and compassion.

The NUJ leadership urges members to use the period to pray for the unity, progress, and stability of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. It stresses the need for journalists to continue to uphold truth, fairness, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The union called on members to reflect on the values of love, tolerance, and mutual respect, irrespective of religious differences, adding that the simultaneous observance presents a unique opportunity to strengthen interfaith harmony within the Union.

While wishing Muslim members a fulfilling Ramadan fast and Christian members a spiritually rewarding Lenten season, the Council encouraged them to remember the less privileged through acts of kindness and generosity.

The NUJ also charged journalists to use the sacred period to recommit themselves to ethical journalism, national development, and the promotion of peace in society, especially in their reportage and engagements.

The council expressed confidence that the prayers and sacrifices offered during the period would yield positive outcomes for the Union, the state, and the nation at large.
