President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Aina will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure as registrar is scheduled to end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the presidency, Professor Aina is an accomplished academic and technology expert with extensive experience in digital systems, examination administration and institutional reforms.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, alongside a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Professor Aina currently lectures in the Department of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he has built a reputation in educational technology and systems optimisation.
The statement noted that his association with JAMB began during his National Youth Service Corps year when he served with the examination body, gaining practical experience in admissions administration and data management.
The presidency said the exposure inspired his long-standing interest in examination reforms and digital transformation within the education sector.
With over 15 years of professional experience, Aina has worked in the areas of technology, governance and institutional development, providing advisory support to federal and state governments on digital transition and operational reforms.
The statement further revealed that he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at the age of 39 and is now poised to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
Professor Aina has also consulted for examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), as well as several state ministries of education, particularly in ICT deployment and examination integrity.
He is a member of professional bodies including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would build on the achievements of Professor Oloyede and further reposition JAMB for greater efficiency, innovation and service delivery.
