NBTE begins accreditation of 35 programmes of Ibadan Polytechnic

Officials of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on Wednesday arrived The Polytechnic, Ibadan for the accreditation of 35 of the programmes run by the institution.

Director of Polytechnic Programme, National Board of Technical Education(NBTE), Kaduna, Architect Ngbede Ogorh and the Zonal Director, Engr Olubode Majiyagbe who led the team in their separate remarks during their visit to the institution noted that the board as one of the regulatory body in Nigeria came to the institution to perform one of its statutory duty which was quality assurance.

The NBTE officials noted that the board did not come to witch-hunt anybody, but to bring agenda of the board to all stakeholders, adding that the reports would based on information giving to them by management of the institution, assuring that the board will support the institution to ensure quality programmes.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Rector of the institution, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, noted that the accreditation would have been done two years ago if not for coronavirus pandemic.

The rector maintained that the essence of the accreditation was assessment and ensured improvement, adding that the institution has developed its infrastructure and program within two years of its last accreditation.

He said: “Within the last two years, two 300 capacity lecture theater were built in the institution, another 200 capacity lecture theater was a built for the institution by Chartered Institute of Banker, 72 rooms lecturers office is currently ongoing, and another 500 capacity lecture theater is also going on courtesy of the alumni of the institution.”

“These are part of our efforts towards quality education because we believe government alone cannot do it, that is why we go to donors to assist us in terms of infrastructural development,” Adebiyi said.
