The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has apprehended seven suspects and recovered stolen electronics and goods valued at over N300 million, in a series of operations aimed at curbing criminal activity across the state.
The suspects were paraded on Thursday at the Amotekun Corps headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
Commander of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the arrests stemmed from coordinated efforts to dismantle crime networks, adding that recent operations have significantly reduced incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and cult-related violence.
“More than celebrating the arrest of criminals, we are celebrating the recovery of life and property,” Adeleye stated.
Among the arrests was a syndicate accused of trafficking stolen electronics from Lagos to Ondo State. According to Adeleye, one of the suspects boarded a commercial vehicle carrying the goods and surreptitiously repackaged them into an empty carton during transit. The scheme unraveled during a routine fuel stop, leading to a deeper investigation and the eventual recovery of the stolen items.
The electronics, mainly phones and gadgets, reportedly belong to a licensed dealer based in Ondo State and will be returned to the rightful owner upon completion of legal proceedings.
Also paraded were suspects linked to a recent abduction along the Itagbolu Road. Two victims, kidnapped six days earlier, were rescued after a 96-hour search operation in the forest. The kidnappers had demanded a N50 million ransom, which was not paid.
“We advise residents not to pay ransom,” Adeleye emphasized. “We’re pleased that most kidnap cases in the last two months have been resolved without ransom payments.”
Other individuals presented included a local gang leader who had evaded capture for six months, a habitual offender who jumped bail and fled to Kano before being rearrested, and a suspect allegedly involved in violent clashes with herders.
The corps reiterated its commitment to proactive security measures and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperative.
