Baba Ijesha Shares First Video After Release, Expresses Gratitude for Support

Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has released his first video message following his release from prison after more than three years in custody over allegations of sexual assault.

His release, which took place on Friday, November 15, was announced by fellow actor Yomi Fabiyi. Fabiyi disclosed on Instagram that the Court of Appeal had cleared Baba Ijesha, describing him as “not just back, but better,” while expressing joy over the court’s verdict.

In a video now circulating online, Baba Ijesha is seen expressing gratitude to an unnamed supporter—believed to be Fabiyi—for standing by him during his time behind bars. Speaking in Yoruba, he explained that he had just regained his freedom and was looking for a place to rest.

“Baba Ese, I have come out. I just came out. I just want to leave there and look for a place to go. Thank you for your support. You will not be disgraced. Let me find where to relax. Ese gan. Thank you,” he said.

The video sparked mixed reactions from social media users:

“Oluwa ose oo, at last,” one user wrote.

“I hope you don learn,” another commented.

Others admonished him, urging him to stay out of trouble, while some expressed relief over his release.

Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2022 for the indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault involving comedienne Princess’s 14-year-old ward. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced him to a total of 16 years, but he was to serve only five years concurrently. Princess publicly celebrated the judgment at the time.

The case, which first came to light in 2021, caused major controversy within Nollywood, leading to a heated public feud between actors Iyabo Ojo and Yomi Fabiyi, who supported opposing sides of the issue.
