Chike Reveals Why He No Longer Attends Church Regularly

Nigerian singer Chike Ezekpeazu has shared the personal reasons behind his decision to stop attending church frequently.

Speaking in an interview with VJ Adams, the music star explained that an unexpected encounter with someone from his past during a church service made him uncomfortable, triggering memories he preferred to leave behind. The experience, he said, made it difficult for him to continue worshiping there, and he left after just a short time.

Chike stressed that his absence from church should not be mistaken for a loss of faith. According to him, he still strongly believes in God and often reflects on moments earlier in his life when he relied heavily on prayer for direction. He recalled living in Primewater Gardens with his then-girlfriend during the early days of his career, a period when he frequently prayed for help as he felt alone and unsure about his future.

The singer also recounted a strange episode shortly after releasing his debut album, when he unknowingly consumed a potent edible that left him disoriented for several days.

Despite such experiences, Chike said he has come to understand that true Christian living goes beyond church attendance. For him, what matters most is living rightly and treating people well.

In his words:“The person leading the praise and worship and I had history. I was having flashbacks and felt out of place. I stayed only a week before leaving.“It’s not because I don’t believe in God. I do. I just prayed, ‘God, I don’t have anybody. I don’t have anything. Just help me.’“A few days after my album release, I accidentally consumed something strong and didn’t even know where I was.“Church is not for me. There are things I enjoy that I wouldn’t be able to do there.“What matters most is doing right by people. Being Christian doesn’t mean you have to live in a certain way. Doing good for others is what counts.”
