Children’s Day: Egbedun advocates prioritised attention for education sector

…Tasks politicians, stakeholders to join hands in rescuing Out-School-Children roaming the streets

The lawmaker-elect, representing Odo-Otin State Constituency, Osun State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Wale Egbedun, has advocated for a prioritised attention for the education sector in the country.

The lawmaker-elect, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Adeola Badru on the Children’s Day celebration on Saturday, explained that prioritised investment in the education sector will ensure that children are properly schooled to meet current and future demands of an increasingly competitive and challenging world economy.

“No great nation has ever emerged from ruin to greatness without deliberate investment on Education,” he said.

Egbedun stressed that the best gift to children is sound education; which will save the society from many challenges.

“We cannot secure the future by investing poorly in the education of our children.”

The University of East London trained Business Information System Analyst, further canvassed that access to quality education should be open to every child in our country as a matter of priority.

His words: “Access to quality education for every child in our country should be a matter of priority and not a choice.”

“Most public schools have become pitiable sights now basking in past glories,” Egbedun being emphatic that government needs to urgently refocus attention on them because they service the larger population.”

“Enrollment has improved, but the quality that can secure the nation is lacking and that is the issue”

“Schools receive more Nigerian children than private schools; sadly a good number of them are mostly living in past glories and this should worry all of us,” he said.

The Osun State House of Assembly member-elect, noted that, looking at nation s budgetary allocation to education over the years across the country, one would agree that Nigerian children needed more attention in the knowledge sector to enhance their opportunities and chances of participating in a knowledge driven world where nations that educate their children lead.

“No country can grow more than her investment in education and you will agree with me that countries that are making waves today paid extra attention to the education of their kids.”

“That being the case, countries that will lead the future are investing today in the education of their kids,” Egbedun stressed.

He, equally, tasked politicians and other well-meaning stakeholders in the country, to join hands in rescuing Nigerian children, who are out-of-school and roaming the streets.

The lawmaker-elect implored foreign partners and corporate bodies to support the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke on his people’s oriented policies and programmes that promote children’s welfare in the state.

He also urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), teachers and other stakeholders to make more commitment toward the protection of children, while resisting any practice proven to be harmful to them.
