There has been a dramatic turn in a landlord-tenant case, as the owner of a school, JK Academy, located at Keffi road, Abuja, Mrs Daniel, alleged that a tenant, named Mrs Alex Olokun, has persistently attempted to deter her Primary and Secondary school, which provides free quality education for over 40 children and reduced fees to over 200 children from running.
It is alleged that Mrs. Olokun has continuously devised means of frustrating the efforts the school does to bring quality education to the children of Auta Ba Lefi.
Mrs Daniel stated that Rolex Drycleaners have been served an eviction notice that is passed due, but has refused to vacate the school premises in a bid to deny the children of resources that could be made available to them for their education.
This landlord-tenant dispute took a dramatic turn, as Mrs Daniel, the owner of the school, alleged that the said tenant whom she served a quit notice because of the increased need of the students in her school for more amenities persistently works to deter the progress of the school.
The agony of this middled-aged woman who has chosen to invest in the education of Nigerian children is an example of some of the recently increased conflicts between landlords and tenants in Nigeria as investors are afraid to invest in rental apartments or stores for fear of tenants seemingly hijacking their properties.
In some cases, tenants refuse to pay rent or even become violent, forcing landlords to consider unconventional actions to protect their properties and investments. Ultimately, Putting a strain to the already precarious housing situation in the country.
In response to this growing crisis, the Nigerian government has been taking steps to address the issue, including setting up a task force to investigate and resolve landlord-tenant disputes. However, many citizens are calling for more actions.
In a shocking interview, Mrs. Daniel allegedly recounted attacks from Mrs Alex Olokun and her husband who run a Rolex Dry Cleaners in a very small shop rented to them by Mrs. Daniel.
Mrs. Daniel details how the tenant, who is refusing to vacate the property, has made numerous attempts to undermine her ownership, including using the Police Force to make arrests on the school property.
She also described how she has been subjected to verbal abuse and threats from the tenant, and how the situation has taken a toll on the academic and non-academic staff of the school.
Despite the challenges, Mrs Daniel remains determined to fight for the children of Auta.
Mrs Daniel remains optimistic that the children seeking education and amazing staff working to put food on the table for their families will prevail.
She stated that the staff of her school are positive that the situation will be resolved in her favour, saying she fights for the jobs of many families and the education of many children.
She said: “In trying to provide free quality education for Nigerian children I have faced countless attacks from this woman. By hired assassins, fallen sick mysteriously and experienced all kinds of systematic harassment to stop the development of the school.”
“Folks have asked me to pray bacause this tenant seeks to inherit your school, she went as far as digging a well illegally on the property without permission because she assumed I would never complete my school.”
A close friend of hers stopped relating with her after she declared her intentions on the property.
“She was so sure I was not going to survive an illness which overtook me at the time.”
The school has continued to grow inspite of her evil plans,” she emotionally narrated.
All efforts to reach Mrs. Olokun proved unsuccessful as of this time.
