The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has gifted a mansion to ex-governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, on his 74th birthday.
The multi-million naira mansion, located in Old Government Residential Area, Port Harcourt, was said to be built and donated by the Rivers State Government, and a birthday party was held in the property to celebrate Odili on his special day.
Governor Wike spoke highly of Dr. Odili at the ceremony and lauded him for being a true leader of men who groomed many in the political space.
“There was a time every political class abandoned Dr. Odili. This is a man who gave us everything. Some people called him Mr. Donatus. There was no abuse he did not get. Everybody he tried to help their families, at the end of the day, all betrayed him,” he said.
“For us, we have used him as a school and we thank him for making himself available for us to use him to learn so that we won’t be shocked of whatever that is going to happened.” he said.
He added that he has received several support and political tutelage from Dr. Odili and expressed gratitude to have known him.
Speaking further, Wike said Odili’s benevolence made it possible for Ikwerre sons to emerge governors of the State.
Responding to the glowing commendation and gift, Dr Odili said he’s very grateful and overwhelmed by the gift. He also said governor Wike was the best performing council chairman in Rivers State when he was governor.
He further praised Wike for investing in human capacity development, infrastructure and building the best Law School campus in Port Harcourt.
