IGP Orders Dismissal, Prosecution of Officer Over Alleged Extrajudicial Killing in Delta.

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved the immediate dismissal and prosecution of ASP Nuhu Usman over his alleged involvement in an extrajudicial killing in Delta State.

The incident, which occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, led to the death of an upcoming singer, Mene Ogidi.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the police said all officers linked to the shooting had been withdrawn from the Delta State Command and redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for accelerated disciplinary proceedings.

According to the statement, the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), alongside other internal mechanisms, has concluded its investigation into the matter.

Findings from the review, the statement noted, established that ASP Usman acted in clear violation of Force Order 237 and other regulations guiding the use of firearms.

His conduct was described as unlawful, unprofessional, and a breach of his duty to protect lives and uphold the law.

The FDC subsequently recommended the immediate dismissal of Usman and other officers found culpable, a decision which has been approved by the IGP and forwarded to the Police Service Commission for ratification in line with due process.

The police added that upon completion of all administrative procedures, the affected officers would be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution over their roles in the incident
