I’m Not Married, I Have No Kids—And That’s Not a Tragedy!” Bimbo Akintola Breaks Her Silence at 55

Popular Nollywood Bimbo Akintola is done staying silent. At 55, the award-winning actress has faced years of whispers, judgmental side-eyes, and cruel gossip from those who wonder why a woman as vibrant, successful, and deeply loved as she is—has never walked down the aisle or raised children of her own.

But now? She’s speaking her truth—and it’s raw, brave, and deeply moving.

In a recent emotional sit-down interview, Bimbo addressed the cloud of gossip that has hovered around her for years. And she did it with grace and fire.

“The man I wanted to marry died. Yes, he’s gone,” she revealed, her voice calm but firm. “But I don’t see the big deal in that. I’m living. I’m thriving. And no, I don’t owe anybody an explanation.”

And just like that, she shattered the narrative that marriage is every woman’s finish line. She didn’t blink. She didn’t flinch. She stood in her truth with dignity.

“I don’t allow criticism to weigh me down because nobody can live my life for me,” she continued. “There are women out there who want marriage, who want children—but life had other plans. And what do people do? They mock them instead of praying for them. That’s not kindness. That’s cruelty.”

Behind her powerful words lies the pain of love lost—and the audacity of a woman who chose healing over bitterness. But Bimbo didn’t stop there. She also peeled back the curtain on a deeply personal moment with a younger colleague—actress Iyabo Ojo—in a story that took an unexpected twist.

Bimbo recounted how a determined, wide-eyed 19-year-old Iyabo once showed up at her parents’ home, hungry to break into Nollywood.

“She was just a kid,” Bimbo recalled. “She said she wanted to act. And I admired her fire. So I pulled strings for her. I even begged for her to get a lead role—something I’ve never done for myself.”

But what started as a mentorship moment quickly soured.

“After she got the role, she got pregnant. And that hurt. Because I went out on a limb for her. I wanted her to shine. But it felt like she didn’t respect the opportunity—or me,” Bimbo said, the disappointment still lingering in her tone.

It wasn’t just about the pregnancy. It was about trust. About effort. About giving someone a platform only to feel discarded once they got what they came for.

Despite the betrayal, Bimbo didn’t bash Iyabo. Her tone was reflective, not bitter. It’s clear she still respects the young woman’s drive—but she’s also a woman who remembers what it cost her emotionally.

In a society obsessed with ticking boxes—wife, mother, submissive, quiet—Bimbo Akintola remains gloriously unticked. She is not a tragic figure. She is a woman who has loved, lost, sacrificed, and survived.
