Bandits who abducted 38 members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have demanded a ransom of N100 million per victim.
According to Leadership, the abductors began reaching out to families of the victims on Thursday, two days after they stormed the church during an evening service.
A community leader, Chief Olusegun Olukotun — the Olori Eta of Eruku — confirmed the development. Olukotun, who narrowly escaped the attack alongside one family member, revealed that four of his relatives were taken.
He explained that the kidnappers had reportedly separated the abductees into groups based on family ties and had started making ransom calls.
“Some members of our community have received calls from the kidnappers, each demanding N100 million for every abducted person. I haven’t been contacted about my own people yet, so I’m still waiting,” he said.
The gunmen invaded the church around 6:06 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, carrying out a deadly assault that left five worshippers dead and 38 kidnapped.
