Okada rider arrested for allegedly r@ping eight-month pregnant woman in Benue

Police officers in Benue state have arrested a 40-year-old motorcyclist identified as Akpo Igwe, for allegedly r@ping an eight-month-old pregnant woman at Irabi Council Ward of Obi Local Government Area of the state last Wednesday, June 7.

Police sources say the victim was on her way back home from the market when she flagged down the motorcyclist to take her home. However while commuting, the suspect veered into a bush path and r@ped the woman. The victim passed out and the suspect who thought she had d!ed, dragged her and dumped her by a river bank where she lay till the following day.

The police say the next day, the victim regained consciousness and was too weak to stand up and resorted to help to come her way. Her family members launched a search for her and found her in her unconscious state by the river. She was rushed to the hospital and after regaining her freedom, she recounted her experience and this led to the arrest of the suspect.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP. Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and said the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
