Orita-Mefa Rotary Club Enhances Education with Donation of Chairs, Tables to School

In a commendable effort to promote basic education and literacy, the Rotary Club of Ibadan, Orita-Mefa, under the leadership of President, Oyebode Adegboyega Adesina, has donated customized chairs and tables to the Rotakids at Omolewa Nursery and Primary School.

This initiative marks the club’s commitment to its 2024 Basic Education and Literacy Project, coinciding with September’s focus on education.

During the donation ceremony, Rotarian Adesina highlighted the importance of serving humanity, a core tenet of Rotary.

“Every year, we line up Programmes that touch human lives. The donation of three dozen chairs and four tables is part of our efforts to improve the learning environment for young students at Omolewa Nursery and Primary school.”

“The donation aims not only to provide physical resources but also to inspire a love for learning among the pupils.”

“Together, we can foster a brighter future for our children through education, and it starts with each one of us taking action.”

Adesina further elaborated on the critical challenges facing education in Nigeria, particularly the declining quality of teaching and resources.

“The quality of teachers being recruited is crucial. Many higher institutions lack the necessary materials for practical learning, which affects student engagement and morale. When teachers are not well-supported, it leads to a cycle of disillusionment.”

He urged the government to take a proactive stance on educational reform.

“The government must increase funding for education and ensure that resources are effectively utilized.”

“Monitoring how funds are spent is essential. Schools must employ qualified teachers who are passionate about imparting knowledge,” he emphasized.

Reflecting on the broader issues affecting education, Adesina pointed out, “In addition to academic qualifications, teachers need the right tools and a conducive environment to teach effectively.”

“The current situation, where many teachers are underpaid and overworked, contributes to the brain drain we see across various sectors, including healthcare and education.”

Adesina also called on parents to play a more active role in their children’s education.

“Many parents do not know what’s happening to their children in school. It’s vital for them to engage with their kids’ academic lives and understand their challenges.”

“Moreover, teaching morals and values should be integrated into the curriculum to help shape well-rounded individuals,” he said.
