Oyo state government, on Thursday, expressed readiness to adopt and localize the Nigeria startup act aimed at providing legal framework for tech industries in the state and assisting youths in the ICT sector develop entrepreneurship with their innovations
The Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and e-governance, Mr. Bayo Akande Jnr. disclosed this at a capacity training organized at the state secretariat to unbundle the many prospects of the Nigeria startup act.
The Nigeria Startup act project is a joint initiative by Nigeria’s tech startup ecosystem and the presidency to harness potentials in the nation’s digital economy through friendly legal frameworks
He explained that for Oyo state ICT sector to achieve great strides among comity of states in the country, there is need to key into the Nigeria startup initiative has become imperative.
He expressed confidence that the Nigeria startup act upon transmission to the state house of assembly would receive quick attention and expand Oyo state’s digital economy.
First female Professor of computer science in Africa, Prof. Adenike Osofisan who graced the event, acknowledged that the startup act if adopted by the state would revolutionize ICT in the country, while cautioning youths to take advantage of the initiative to make money legally in ICT rather than engage in cyber crimes.
Other stakeholders, who spoke at the event, acknowledged the prospect of the initiative while hinting that the project would also assist ICT entrepreneurs with funds to grow their innovations.
Participants also agreed that the Nigeria startup act would unlock the potentials of the Nigerian ecosystem and enable young Nigerians to contribute to the nation’s economy.
