Oyo govt unveils programmes to commemorate 2022 Pacesetter Women Celebration

Oyo state government has unveiled a week-long programme to commemorate this year’s Pacesetters Women Celebration in appreciation of the selfless services and contribution of women to development in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, ministry of women affairs and social inclusion, Mrs Grace Oderinde who disclosed this at a press briefing noted that the Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has remained committed to global development policy that create opportunities for women to participate in leadership roles for democratic gains.

She equally explained that beyond celebrating women in the state, the week long programme would create a platform to evolve support for women in their various businesses and careers, identify young women and inspire them to positive development and particularly build up new SMEs that would be targeted at the rural women

While noting that the full and equitable participation of women in public life would sustain a vibrant democracy, the Permanent Secretary disclosed that the festival would be in conjunction with Fady Charitable Trust Foundation, with the theme tagged “breaking the bias; celebrating women of substance”.

In her remarks, Member representing, Ogbomoso North Constituency, in Oyo state House of Assembly, Honorable Wumi Oladeji , said the governor is gender friendly and women should rise up to make sure they are represented more in the house of assembly, national assembly etc

The six months maternity leave increase was made in law and implemented by the present administration due to the fact that exclusive breastfeeding For that period is encouraged by UNICEF, WHO etc to make child bearing easier for the women.

“Women are so important in politics because they are the mother of the nation that is why politicians can’t do without them.

“It is time to celebrate women and give credence to their efforts in society, the rights of children and women must not be trodden upon,that was why the bill against violence to persons was passed into law.
She therefore said women should work to ensure more female representation, vote for each other and instill self worth into the life of their female children so they will know they are more important than working in the kitchen and the other room alone.

Speaking further, the partnership coordinator, Fady media representative in Nigeria, Anibiire Musibau Idowu reeled out some of the events for the festival to include, Women walks called “Irin Alaafia”, distinguished women award called “Abiyamo”, roundtable talk, exhibition – women entrepreneur called Onise Aje, women group parade amongst other side attractions

She said the NGO has it in mind to support women in the society by improving their life style thru Agriculture, teaching, health etc.

The program will run between5th – 10th December, 2022, with attractions like women walk, award night, celebration night, celebration of successful entrepreneur.
