Rotary District 9126 Hosts Maiden DG’s Cup Golf Tournament at Ibadan Golf Club

In a colorful celebration of service, sportsmanship, and fellowship, the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Onireke, played host to the maiden edition of the Rotary International District 9126 District Governor’s (DG) Cup Golf Tournament, held on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

The well-attended event was organized by Rotarian Golfers within District 9126 in collaboration with the Ibadan Golf Club and the International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (IGFR), Nigeria Chapter, in honor of the current District Governor, Rotarian Kayode Olowolagba.

The IGC Captain and Past Assistant Governor (PAG), Rotarian Seyi Alaba, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Rotarians across the district for their enthusiastic participation and support. Describing the one-day tournament as a “memorable gathering,” PAG Alaba noted that the DG’s Cup was designed to unite golfers from different clubs and zones within the district while fostering the Rotary spirit of camaraderie.

“It was not just about golf; it was about building bonds, creating memories, and celebrating our hardworking District Governor,” said PAG Alaba, who is also a past President of Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro.

He added that the DG’s Cup delivered on its promise of a well-organized and exciting event, offering a wide range of engaging activities. Beyond the main competition, the day featured networking sessions and golf clinics tailored for Rotarians who are not professional golfers but were eager to learn and participate.

The tournament also served a greater purpose: to shine a spotlight on Rotary’s mission and to raise awareness of its impactful service initiatives among non-Rotarians through a fun and engaging platform.

Special appreciation was extended to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Rotarian Kayode Adelekun, and the LOC Secretary, Rotarian Wale Shittu, whose tireless efforts helped ensure the success of the event.

Rotarian golfers and supporters across the district contributed financially and logistically to the event, underscoring the collective passion and unity that Rotary is known for.

“We are truly delighted to have hosted this historic event at Ibadan Golf Club. It was a fitting tribute to DG Kayode Olowolagba for his outstanding service and leadership,” Alaba added.

The DG’s Cup has now set the tone for what promises to be an annual tradition, celebrating leadership, promoting healthy recreation, and advancing the ideals of Rotary through sport.
