Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Shan George, has opened up about a past encounter with one of Nigeria’s wealthiest men and how it cost her a potential investment in her career.
Sharing the experience on her Facebook page, George revealed that over a decade ago, while struggling as an upcoming movie producer, she met the billionaire by chance and seized the opportunity to request funding for her next film. At the time, she disclosed to him that she had spent ₦6 million producing her first movie—an amount considered significant in those days.
However, instead of supporting her, the businessman dismissed her and later became unreachable despite her repeated attempts to reach out. She eventually moved on.
Reflecting on the incident, George said she recently came across a statement credited to the same man, where he admitted he never takes “little people” seriously in business. According to her, that explained why he had waved her off then, since she was a struggling producer.
The actress stressed that while honesty often seems to set people back, she would never join the “lying gang” or fake success to gain favour. In a subtle message to the businessman, she noted that she now produces movies worth $100 million and playfully asked if he was finally ready to invest.
“This is how telling the truth keeps setting us back. Should I have lied then? But I won’t fake it to make it,” she wrote.
Over the years, George has been vocal about challenges within the industry. In 2023, she criticised some junior colleagues for living flamboyantly on leased properties while claiming ownership. She also made headlines after calling for an investigation into fashion brand Ashluxe following a controversial incident at their store involving her and actress Caroline Danjuma.
In another ordeal last year, the actress cried out for help after losing ₦3.6 million to a fraudulent transaction. Fortunately, with the intervention of authorities, she was able to recover the money.
