Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to the Delta State Governor, has criticized Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his wife, Chioma, over their forthcoming white wedding in Miami, Florida.
The couple, who held a lavish traditional wedding in Nigeria last year, are scheduled to host what has been described as the “grand finale” of their wedding celebration in Miami this weekend.
Reacting via his Instagram page, Ossai described the event as an unnecessary and extravagant expenditure, saying he was “disappointed” in the couple’s decision.
“Davido and Chioma’s white wedding this weekend in Miami is a waste of money, and I am disappointed. Having too much money doesn’t mean you should carelessly spend it. Dangote, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and I won’t waste money like this. What’s the essence of a white wedding in Florida when your lavish traditional marriage was held over a year ago?” he wrote.
Ossai, who has built a reputation for publicly rebuking celebrities, has previously criticized several high-profile figures. Last year, he faulted singer Paul Okoye for wearing a cap during prayers at his traditional wedding, describing it as disrespectful to elders.
He also took aim at gospel singer Moses Bliss over a photograph with his then-fiancée, which he claimed was “against Christianity,” and at Theophilus Sunday for holding his partner’s waist during a pre-wedding shoot, calling it “traditionally taboo” and “immoral in Christianity.”
In March, Ossai condemned actress Ini Edo for attending a party in Ghana a day after her father’s burial, saying it was “the wrong way to mourn.” He also criticized music legend 2Baba for the timing of his separation announcement from Annie Idibia, and rebuked actor Charles Okocha for allowing his wife to wear what he described as “half-naked” attire to a public event.
