The Polytechnic, Ibadan Mourns Pioneer Rector, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo

The Polytechnic, Ibadan has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of its first principal (later known as Rector), Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, who died over the weekend.

In a statement signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi, the institution’s Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, alongside the management, staff, and students, joined other Nigerians in mourning the late academic icon and statesman.

Describing his death as a “huge loss to the nation,” the statement paid tribute to Dr. Olunloyo’s contributions not only as the pioneer head of the institution but also as a distinguished mathematician, engineer, and former Governor of the old Oyo State—which comprised present-day Oyo and Osun States.

“Dr. Olunloyo made a significant impact during his short tenure as principal of the institution,” the statement read. “Notably, he facilitated the construction of a vital link road connecting the southern and northern parts of the campus, a project executed with the collaboration of staff and students from the engineering department.”

The Polytechnic hailed the late scholar as an “academic colossus and technocrat,” and offered prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo is remembered as a trailblazer in education, governance, and public service, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
