The Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, today officially declared open the 2025 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) Orientation Course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Ogbakuta, Iseyin.
Addressing the newly deployed corps members, Governor Makinde extended a warm welcome on behalf of the government and people of Oyo State, describing the state as “the Pacesetter” with a rich cultural heritage, hospitable climate, and peaceful environment conducive for national service.
The Governor congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their academic programs, applauding their parents and guardians for the sacrifices made to support their education. He urged the new intakes not to disappoint their families or the nation, adding that “the future and survival of our beloved country rest on your shoulders.”
Makinde emphasized the enduring relevance of the NYSC in uniting Nigeria and nurturing responsible, self-reliant youth. He encouraged corps members to take all camp programs seriously, especially the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme, which is designed to empower them as wealth creators and not just job seekers.
“You must obey instructions and avoid all forms of behavior that contradict the NYSC rules,” the governor cautioned. “Take this opportunity to build new friendships, learn from others, and embrace the diversity that makes our nation strong.”
He further assured the corps members of their safety and well-being throughout their service year in Oyo State, stating that the state government remains committed to corps welfare and the security of all residents.
Governor Makinde concluded his address by urging the young Nigerians to reflect on their post-service plans and maximize the year to prepare for adulthood and national contribution.
“Productivity is what determines success,” he said. “Unleash your potential and make your life more meaningful.”
The Governor then formally declared the 2025 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) Orientation Course open.
