Alli Declares 2027 Governorship Bid, Unveils Development Agenda for Oyo

Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, pledging to deliver a people-focused administration driven by inclusive growth, security, and sustainable development.

The declaration, held at Yemetu Police Barracks in Ibadan, attracted a large turnout of party leaders, stakeholders, traditional rulers, and supporters from across the state, marking a significant step ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In his address, Alli said his decision followed wide consultations with political leaders, traditional institutions, and residents across the state. He described his ambition as a call to service rather than a personal pursuit.

“This is not just about ambition; it is about responsibility, service, and the future of Oyo State,” he said.

The lawmaker, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, highlighted his experience in public service, including his tenure as the first democratically elected chairman of Ibadan North Local Government in 1991, as well as his roles as Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff in previous administrations.

He said these experiences have shaped his governance philosophy, which prioritises accountability, grassroots development, and measurable impact.

Outlining his vision, Alli identified key sectors such as education, security, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development as focal points of his proposed administration.

On education, he pledged reforms aimed at improving standards and fostering innovation, while stressing the need for long-term planning. He also assured residents of improved security, noting that development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

The senator added that his administration would expand access to quality healthcare and invest in infrastructure to better connect rural and urban communities.

He further promised to boost the state’s economy by empowering traders, artisans, and small business owners, alongside initiatives to create opportunities for youths through entrepreneurship and digital innovation.

“We will prioritise grassroots development and ensure that local governments operate effectively with real autonomy,” he said.

Alli also outlined plans to revitalise agriculture through modern farming practices and improved market access, positioning the sector as a major driver of economic growth in the state.

On governance, he pledged transparency, accountability, and reforms in the civil service, assuring workers and pensioners of improved welfare and timely payment of salaries and entitlements.

He emphasised his commitment to inclusive governance, noting that women, traditional rulers, and community leaders would play active roles in decision-making processes.

The senator paid tribute to past leaders of the state for their contributions, stating that his administration would build on existing legacies to move Oyo forward.

Calling for unity, Alli urged residents to see his ambition as a collective project aimed at repositioning the state for greater prosperity.

“I offer myself as a servant—tested, prepared, and ready to serve,” he said.

The event was attended by prominent political figures, including former Deputy Governor Inyola Oladokun and Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, among others.
