Alli Pledges Rural Development, Transparency as He Eyes Oyo Central Senate Seat.

A senatorial aspirant for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Alhaji Dr. Ademola Wasiu Alli, has outlined plans to prioritise rural development, effective lawmaking, and transparent representation if elected into the National Assembly.

Alli made this known during a “Hot Seat” interactive session with journalists held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Saturday, where he spoke on his legislative agenda, political philosophy, and preparedness for the role.

Drawing from over three decades of experience in the federal civil service, the aspirant described himself as a grassroots politician with strong ties to rural communities, noting that his ambition is driven by a desire to close developmental gaps in underserved areas across Oyo Central.

He stressed that the core duties of a senator—lawmaking, oversight, and constituency lobbying—require both experience and influence, which he said he possesses.
According to him, his background and long-standing engagement with rural communities have given him a clear understanding of the needs of the people, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment.

Alli explained that his decision to seek a legislative position, despite his experience in the executive arm, was informed by the broader opportunities the legislature offers in shaping national policies across multiple sectors.

On the issue of public trust and integrity, he acknowledged growing scepticism among Nigerians but maintained that his track record and consistent community engagement distinguish him.

Speaking on campaign financing, Alli emphasised the importance of goodwill and grassroots support, noting that electoral success is not solely dependent on financial strength.

He also addressed concerns about political godfatherism, describing it as a form of mentorship and collaboration within party structures rather than imposition.

Highlighting key challenges facing the district, the aspirant identified poor infrastructure, unemployment, and rural-urban migration as pressing issues, calling for increased investment in agriculture, youth skills development, and private sector-driven job creation.

Alli further assured that he would leverage his experience in government to attract federal projects to the district and ensure accountability in public institutions.
