Cleric appraises media, says their roles indispenseable

…tasks Christian journalists on faith, professionalism

The founder and General-Overseer of Sanctuary of Christ Evangelical Church, Pastor (Prof.) ‘Gbade Ojo, has restated the importance, the Christiandom places on the media, noting that the media is a strong tool for evangelisation and the propagation of the Gospel of Christ to the whole world.

He made this known while addressing the executive members of the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists, NACJ, Oyo State chapter, at his church, in Ibadan, led by the chairman of the association in Oyo State, Com. ‘Lekan Sobowale.

The clergy man noted that: “God needs every individual skills, talents and treasures for the work of evangelization, adding that if God gives any individual a talent or gift, it is because God wants such individual to use it to the glory of His name.

“The Church realises the indispensable role of the media in her mission,” he said.

Pastor Ojo urged Christian journalists in both the traditional media and the social media to ensure they are guided by the faith the professed in the course of carrying out their duties.

“As Christians working in the media, you have great responsibilities, hence there is the need for a perpetual marriage between your faith and your profession.”

Ojo, who doubles as a Professor of Political Science in the University of Ilorin and a former Chief of Staff in the administration of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, further urged Christian journalists to play their significant responsibilities placed on them by God to enlighten mankind in a balanced and objective manner for them to make informed decisions.

He noted that journalists needed to be righteous and truthful in discharging their difficult tasks of informing, enlightening and entertaining the public.

Earlier in his address, NACJ chairman in Oyo State, Com. ‘Lekan Sobowale restated the association’s commitment to carry out it activities with the fear of God, while stating the readiness of all members to propagating the gospel of Christ Jesus through their respective platforms.

He said the association was borne out of the need for Christian Journalists to effectively report church and Christian-related activities wherever in the state.

Com. Shobowale, however, lauded Pastor Ojo for not relenting in propagating the word of God and winning souls for God through his ministrations, while praying God to continue to uphold him.

Part of the entourage that accompanied the chairman, include the Secretary, Com. Ikeoye Oyetoro; the Public Relations Officer, PRO, Com Adeola Badru; Treasurer, Com. Mosun Akinola; the Director of Finance, Com. Wale Owoade and the Welfare Officer, Com. Temidayo Aboderin.
