Court Grants El-Rufai ₦200m Bail, Restricts Public Comments

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has granted bail to former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in his ongoing corruption trial.

The presiding judge, Rilwan Aikawa, delivered the ruling after considering submissions from both the defence and prosecution following earlier adjournments.

The court fixed bail at ₦200 million with two sureties in like sum. As part of the conditions, one of the sureties must be a senior civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler.

Additionally, the court directed the sureties to deposit their international passports. El-Rufai was also ordered to attend all court proceedings and refrain from making public comments related to the case.

Despite the bail approval, the court ruled that the former governor would remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission until all bail conditions are fulfilled.

El-Rufai is currently facing multiple charges bordering on alleged financial misconduct, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public funds during his tenure in office
