Easter: Makinde charges Christians on sacrificial living, love, prayers for state, nation

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has called on Christians in the state and across Nigeria to imbibe the lessons of love and sacrificial living taught by Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection, as they celebrate the Easter season.

He equally harped on the need for Christians to continue to make intercession for Oyo State, Nigeria and the leadership of the country at this critical period.

Governor Makinde, who stated this on Saturday, in an Easter Message signed by his Special Adviser (Media), Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, and made available to newsmen, congratulated Christians on witnessing the end of the 40-day Lenten period and the Easter festival.

According to the governor, Easter signifies the height of God’s love for humanity, as exemplified by Jesus Christ’s persecution, death and resurrection and it teaches humanity to be selfless, to love and make sacrifices for others.

He noted that throughout the period of Christ’s trials leading to the cross and beyond, he interceded for humanity, stating that Christians must imbibe that lesson by also praying for Nigeria and government at all levels during the Easter festival and beyond.

Makinde, who appreciated the Christian community for its support for and cooperation with his government since 2019, charged them not to relent as the administration continues to serve the people.

He equally admonished residents of the state to be vigilant during and after the festivities and to say something to the government once they notice anything suspicious in their environment.

He charged residents to always make use of the state’s emergency number 615, stating that security is a responsibility of everyone.
