Gunmen Kill Three Policemen at Kogi Checkpoint.

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Wednesday as gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing three officers on duty.

The incident occurred at the border town linking Kogi and Kwara states, leaving the community in shock and tension.

Spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the Commissioner of Police had immediately deployed a tactical squad to track down the assailants and restore calm in the area.

“I can confirm that three officers on duty were killed today in Egbe, a border community with Kwara State. The Commissioner of Police has deployed a tactical squad, and we are on the trail of the perpetrators,” Aya stated.

Local sources revealed that the attackers also carted away the rifles of the slain policemen.

This incident comes barely two days after a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), DSP Adama Adekunle Emmanuel, was reportedly shot dead by a colleague under controversial circumstances at a hotel in Life Camp, Abuja, where he was on assignment.

The widow of the deceased NSCDC officer, Titilayo Adams, has since raised concerns over the suspicious nature of her husband’s injuries, suggesting foul play.
