
A large gathering of delegates from Oyo, Osun, Ogun and Kwara states ,numbering over 40,000 members of Jehovah’s Witnesses are converging on the ancient city of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital for the 2025 annual convention of the global organisation.
The 2025 convention, which will be held simultaneously across major cities in the world will inspire communities and fuel local economy.
The theme of the much anticipated 2025 convention series is “Pure Worship”.
Starting from the weekend of June 6, 2025, the annual convention which will run for 13 weeks is expected to end on the weekend of August 29, 2025 at the Ifatumo Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ibadan.
Last year, about eleven million people attended more than 6,000 three-day conventions organized by Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide.
Speaking on the highlights of the convention, the spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses, Professor Gill Adekannbi disclosed to journalists that this year’s convention theme is intended to bring clarity to many people who are searching for hope.
He said that all in attendance should leave feeling refreshed and re-energized with the knowledge of what worship is all about and how this can help them cope with today’s challenges.
According to him, the “Pure Worship ” convention will present Bible-based videos, discourses and interviews on topics such as: “Applying the lessons from Jesus’ first miracles”, “Take these things away from here” , The good news according to Jesus : Episode 3 ” I am he” , and ” Do you worship what you know”.
Professor Adekannbi reiterated that Jehovah’s Witnesses are one of the largest non-profit convention organizations in the world, preaching the good news of God’s kingdom that will bring lasting solution to mankind’s multifarious problems.
Realizing that many in the community are concerned about matters of faith and spirituality, Adekannb invites all to the annual global convention series for a motivating event exploring the meaning of sincere reverence and worship to gain refreshment in a troubled world .
“We look forward to once again working with city officials to bring this exciting convention program to the people ” he said.
Saturday’s highlight is a baptism of local candidates.
Professor Adekannbi further explained that many attendees will be excited to enjoy Episode 2 of “The Good News According to Jesus.”
He emphasized that this 18-episode video series is a comprehensive look at the life and ministry of Jesus Christ based solely on the Gospel accounts.
Episode 1 premiered as a special feature at last year’s convention series. Episode 2 will be shown in two parts on Friday and Saturday.
While noting that no collection will be taken in the convention, Adekannbi also gave vivid details of the program of event, saying “The program starts by Friday from 8:20 a.m. to 3:45 p.m ; Saturday from 8:20 a.m. to 3:35 p.m; and Sunday from 8:20a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Each day has a one-hour and 20-minute lunch break.”
