Naria Scarcity:LASU staff slumps and dies while queuing to withdraw N5,000 in bank amid cash scarcity

A staff of the Lagos State University (LASU), identified as Mr Ademola Adesola, slumped and died while queuing to withdraw N5,000 new notes in a bank.

The tragic incident took place in a bank within the school premises on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.


Confirming the incident to the Nigerian Tribune, the Head of the Publicity and Public Relations Unit of the university, Mr Jeariogbe Olaniyi, said Mr Ademola drove himself to school that morning.

He said the Grade Level 13 officer left his office for the bank around 11.30am to withdraw money from his account. Sadly, he collapsed while standing in the queue and died in the process.


He said the deceased only spent about 30 minutes in the queue when he suddenly slumped and could not be resuscitated.

Mr Olaniyi said the deceased was rushed to the school clinic for medical attention but all efforts to revive him was unsuccessful.

Speaking on the career of the deceased, he said Mr Adesola started working in the University as a typist in 1986 and rose to the Chief Executive Officer (Account) on Grade Level 13.
