Nigeria at 65: Tinubu to Deliver Independence Day Broadcast Wednesday Morning.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address the nation at 7 a.m. on Wednesday as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday. The broadcast will be aired live on Channels Television and other electronic media platforms.

This will be Tinubu’s third Independence Day speech since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

The Federal Government announced that the 65th anniversary carries the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.” The theme underscores the importance of unity, collaboration, and patriotism among government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens in driving peace, prosperity, and progress.

While highlighting the country’s resilience since independence in 1960, the government said the anniversary calls for consolidating past achievements while pursuing greater goals under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Other activities include a Juma’at prayer on Friday, September 26, and an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28. However, the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled for October 1 has been cancelled.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, noted that the cancellation does not reduce the significance of the celebration, assuring that the milestone would still be marked with dignity and enthusiasm.
