NYSC Oyo State Coordinator Urges Corps Members to Embrace Service, Discipline as 2025 Batch A Stream I Orientation Ends

The 2025 Batch A Stream I orientation course for corps members deployed to Oyo State officially came to a close today at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, with a strong call for discipline, patriotism, and community engagement.

Delivering his address at the closing ceremony, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Odoba Abel Oche, described the event as a significant milestone in the journey of national service. He congratulated the corps members for successfully completing the three-week intensive orientation programme and declared them ready for deployment to their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs) across the state.

“It is a great honour to welcome all our esteemed guests to this memorable ceremony marking the successful completion of the 2025 Batch A Stream I Orientation Course,” Mr. Oche began. He expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, ably represented at the event, for his continuous support to the NYSC in the state.

According to the Coordinator, the corps members underwent a comprehensive reorientation exercise featuring lectures and training sessions facilitated by experts from security agencies, health institutions, financial sectors, and traditional institutions. These engagements, he said, have equipped them with the necessary tools to contribute meaningfully to their host communities.

“I must commend this batch for their discipline, commitment, and enthusiasm throughout the programme,” he noted, adding that occasional exuberance is expected of young people transitioning into national service. He urged employers, community leaders, and stakeholders to offer mentorship and support, viewing the corps members not just as temporary visitors but as future leaders.

Addressing the corps members directly, Mr. Oche encouraged them to uphold the values of the NYSC—selfless service, patriotism, teamwork, and discipline. He reminded them to respect local customs, avoid unauthorized travel, and seek opportunities for personal development, including vocational skills and further education.

He also called on local authorities and community stakeholders to support the Community Development Service (CDS) projects initiated by corps members, describing them as vital tools for grassroots transformation.

The Coordinator expressed deep appreciation to the Oyo State Government under Governor Makinde for its unwavering support, as well as the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, for her encouragement. He also acknowledged the support of the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola Olawale Adeyeri II, the Chairman of Iseyin Local Government, Hon. Fadiran Razak, and the people of Iseyin for their hospitality.

“As you spread across Oyo State, I pray for your protection, progress, and purpose. May your service year be impactful and rewarding,” he concluded.

The ceremony was graced by top government officials, royal fathers, community leaders, NYSC staff, and families of corps members, rounding off the orientation with celebrations, cultural displays, and a renewed commitment to national development.
